Sumizome Artisan Miyuki: 5th Anniversary Event at Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art Monday, March 30, 2026

A Pledge on the Cosmic New Year, and a Miraculous Day of Overcoming Adversity

On March 30, 2026, amid the breathtaking cherry blossoms in full bloom, a special fashion show and event was held at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art—one of Japan’s most prestigious cultural venues—to commemorate the 5th anniversary of “Sumizome Artisan Miyuki -miyuki-.”

The day brought together the collective energy of 41 models, 52 guests, and a dedicated support team of 9 elite members. The solemn, extraordinary space of the museum resonated deeply with the aesthetic sensibility of Sumizome (ink dyeing), creating a breathtakingly magnificent stage.

The project first drew breath exactly one year prior, on March 21, 2025—a day known as the “Cosmic New Year”—during a creative photo session in Yamanashi. Shoko Moriki captured mystical imagery using drone cinematography, while Yoshie Imura multi-tasked flawlessly from driving in freezing temperatures to modeling. The profound bond born from that special shoot became the unshakeable foundation for this 5th-anniversary event.

The journey of preparation was by no means smooth. There were moments of unforeseen hardships and a temporary pause due to the loss of a beloved family member. At times, the obstacles felt overwhelming. Yet, it was the constant encouragement and unwavering courage provided by these two remarkable women that allowed me to look forward once again. I extend my deepest respect and heartfelt gratitude to them.

When the model registration finally opened on January 7, 2026, 80% of the slots were filled within just an hour and a half, selling out completely on the very same day. During those intense 90 minutes, we held each other’s hands over a group LINE call, witnessing a moment that felt nothing short of miraculous.

Many of the models who graced the stage were loyal, cherished repeaters who have worn Sumizome time and time again. For an artisan, there is no greater joy than knowing people desire to wrap themselves in my creations repeatedly. Furthermore, more than ten models traveled from afar, including the Kanto and Shikoku regions, to join us in Kyoto. I am profoundly moved and endlessly grateful for their deep passion.

With the cherry blossoms of the Japanese garden serving as a borrowed backdrop, the models walking the runway with vibrant and dignified grace resembled a living, moving painting. The joy of sharing that supreme space is a treasure I will carry for the rest of my life.
