Costume cooperation for Himeji City “Unique Avenue HIMEJI Plan” fashion show

The world of elegance woven by sumizome Japanese dresses in the Kokoen Garden

Koukouen is the pride of Himeji City. Sumizome Artisan Miyuki’s sumizome Japanese dresses were shown at a fashion show held as part of a demonstration project utilizing the Unique Avenue HIMEJI Plan.

Model Aya wears an innovative Japanese dress that can be easily worn with a single string. While inheriting the beauty of the traditional kimono, the dress was designed to be easy to put on so that it would be accessible to modern women as well. Combined with a Tsukuri Obi, an elegant silhouette is instantly created.

The show featured two pieces: sumizome uchikake and sumizome wadoroshi. The Uchikake was carefully dyed in sumi ink from white fabric, and the “roots-roots” pattern was hand-painted. The lining was a bright pink that complemented the sumi ink color, adding a touch of glamour. Layered under the Uchikake is an arrangement of sumizome Japanese dresses. Two different sumi-zome pieces created a serene yet glamorous world in the beautiful landscape of Kokoen.

Sumizome Artisan Miyuki’s sumizome Japanese dresses are a fusion of traditional Japanese beauty and modern sensibilities. The fashion show, held at the historic Kokoen Garden, was a memorable experience that demonstrated the new possibilities of sumizome.
