Costume Cooperation for the Red Carpet at the Cannes Film Festival

Carrying Ancient Japan on Our Backs to the World

In May 2024, we produced two costumes for the gala of popular YouTuber ETSUKO at the glamorous Cannes International Film Festival.

The costumes, based on ETSUKO’s brand color navy blue, were a new challenge for sumizome, and after numerous color tests, we achieved a combination of deep blue, gold, and gold leaf.

The theme of the costume is “Carrying the ancient Japan to the world”. Inspired by Tenpyo costumes, we visited the Heijo-kyo Capital in Nara many times to develop the design. The luxurious sleeves made of lightweight organdie and the long, graceful flow of the back body create a glamorous yet solemn atmosphere.

We believe that the costume, a fusion of traditional Japanese beauty and modern sensibilities, brought out the best of ETSUKO’s charm and made her one of the brightest lights of the night in Cannes.
