Three pieces of sumizome clothing that graced the runway
On June 29, 2025, the brand runway show for Sumizome Kōshō Miyuki was held at WITH HARAJUKU HALL during the “Walking Collection 2025 Summer” event.
This time, three specially made ink-dyed outfits graced the runway. Here are the stories behind each outfit.
Blue Sumizome Dress
The left side is decorated with a blue sumi-zome Japanese dress worn by @yukapidayo. Born and raised in Nara, a region famous for its sumi ink production, and currently working in Nara, this dress has a special meaning for me. It is an homage to the Tenpyo period, when Nara was the capital of Japan and Tenpyo culture flourished, and was designed to be a light and summery outfit, similar to the clothing worn before the twelve-layered kimono became popular.
Red hakama-style dress
Walking on the right side was @sakagamiyuko wearing a red hakama-style dress. Inspired by summer kimonos, the dress was made by layering red organza over white organza dyed with sumi ink and applying gold leaf. The hakama-style dress, characterized by its Japanese-Western fusion design, also used the same fabric for the headdress to create a unified style.
Central kimono
The centerpiece was the uchikake worn by @atsumi_mi04. The thick satin fabric was decorated with the brand’s iconic “Ryu-tsunagi” pattern in light ink, and the inner fabric was adorned with elegant gold. Inside, a dress was paired with a red pigment and ink design and gold leaf, and a large headdress was made using light ink fabric, taking into consideration the overall balance.
Through this runway show, we were able to express the new possibilities and beauty of Sumizome. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who attended the show and to all those involved for their cooperation.
